A pet owner has revealed the story behind how a profile of her missing cat ended up on Grindr.
It comes after the animal’s profile on the gay dating app was shared on Twitter by an amused user and The Argus was called on to investigate.
Erin Johansen's cat Ruby has been missing since March 17 from the Elm Grove area of Brighton and Erin has been frantically searching for her ever since.
In a bid to expand the search, her housemate suggested he adapt his already active Grindr profile to find the six-year-old missing cat, although he didn’t change the descriptive tags.
Ruby is described on the app as 23, white, with an average body build.
It also says that the cat is single, "a bottom" and is "looking for dates and relationships".
The cat was described as "chill, curious, goofy" and one who enjoys "karaoke, movies, music and reading".
“We have been looking everywhere for her and we are super worried and desperate to find her,” said Erin.
“We had posted her all over Facebook, put up posters and have been searching the area frantically.
“In a panic my housemate offered to use his already active Grindr profile as a way to reach more Brighton people, didn't think about changing the rest of the information.”
The Argus set up a Grindr profile to try to find the missing cat.
Very quickly Ruby's profile appeared and showed it was in close proximity to the office.
We messaged and were put in touch with Erin.
A note under the profile said: "A bit strange but our house cat has gone missing. If anyone has seen this cat please message me to let me know, it would be great help."
Erin has appealed to anyone in the area to keep their eyes peeled for the moggy.
She said: “She is really little, with green eyes, little white socks on her front paws, three quarter length white socks on her back legs.
“She has a half white and half pink black nose and a brownish black lip.”
