One of the city’s most successful coffee chains has closed three of its cafes.
Small Batch Coffee has permanently shut its branches in Seven Dials, Norfolk Square and Wilbury Road in Brighton and Hove.
The other two will remain open - in Goldstone Villas, near Hove station, and its Wellington House café and roastery in Camden Street, Portslade.
There is also a stand at Brighton Station. It is not known whether this will remain open.
Staff held a goodbye drinks at the Seven Dials branch yesterday after their final day of business.
Notes were left on the doors of the Seven Dials and Wilbury Road branches.
The note on the Seven Dials storefront read: “We are sorry to announce that Small Batch Seven Dials has closed its doors. We will be focusing on our coffee and roastery where you will be able to order your coffee online.
“Our Goldstone and Wellington House cafes are still open and we would love to see you there.
“Thank you for all your support over the years, and we’ll miss you very much. Love the Seven Dials team.”
A statutory demand letter on the same door claims that Small Batch Coffee Company Ltd owed creditors Pemberton’s Letting Agents Brighton £11,250.88.
The statutory demand was made under section 123(1)(a) of the Insolvency Act 1986.
The top of the document, which was not dated, said the demand must be dealt with within 21 days after its service on the company or a winding-up order could be made in respect of the company.
Companies House states that Small Batch’s accounts up to December 31, 2021, to be filed by September 30 last year, are overdue.
A note on the Wilbury Road branch said: “We are sorry to announce that Small Batch Wilbury has closed its doors.
“We will be focusing on our coffee and the roastery where you will be able to order your coffee online.
“Thank you for your support over the years.”
The Norfolk Square branch did not have a note on its shopfront but was closed.
Small Batch Coffee Roasters was founded by backpacker Brad Johnson in 2006.
