Major roads in East Sussex could see their speed limits reduced as part of an effort to improve road safety.
Roads such as the A22, A26 and A259 will all be assessed to see if speeds could be reduced in a bid to improve the area in the next three years.
The project, which will see more than 25 stretches of road being changed, may affect all A and B roads in East Sussex.
East Sussex County Councillor Claire Dowling, lead member for transport and environment, said: “This funding will enable us to carry out a systematic assessment of the main road network across East Sussex and put together an evidence-based plan of how we can ensure speed limits are effective.

“It is important that we use the funding where we can have the greatest impact. The outcome of the assessments will be carefully considered to allow us to prioritise schemes which will be implemented across the county.”
The council will receive £500,000 in funding which will be used to measure real time speed data to determine which roads need the changes.
Potential improvements include speed limit reductions, vehicle activated signs, and new road surfacing, signage and lining.
