A popular city pub and part of the Wetherspoon chain has closed today.
The Cliftonville Inn in George Street, Hove, has today confirmed that it has closed after being put up for sale in September last year.
The pub is one of four in Brighton and Hove. It is one of 32 across the country listed for sale by the national chain last year.
When it was put up for sale the chain said it understood that customers and staff may be “disappointed” that it is being sold.
The Cliftonville was sold with all fixtures and fittings apart from tills and IT equipment.
The sale brochure for the pub noted the outdoor seating area and potential to create a roof terrace on the first floor as two notable features for the pub.
It read: “Stock will be removed from the premises prior to completion.
“Interested parties are asked to undertake discreet customer visits in the first instance. No formal viewings will be permitted unless arranged through the joint selling agents.
“Under no circumstances should any direct approach be made to any of our client's staff. Offers are invited for the benefit of our client's leasehold interest."
Now the pub has been sold. It has not yet been revealed who the buyer is.
Eddie Gershon, spokesman for Wetherspoon, said: “We can confirm that The Cliftonville Inn pub has closed.
“We thank our customers and staff for their loyalty over the years.”
