I was glad to see you cover Just Stop Oil's march in Brighton last Saturday, February 18.
While you focused on the disruption to drivers, it's worth remembering that these minor delays are nothing compared with the chaos that's in store for us if oil extraction continues to expand unchecked.
Just Stop Oil are calling for a halt to all new oil and gas projects. It's a reasonable demand, which has already been deemed essential by reputable bodies like the International Energy Agency and even the government's own advisory body the Climate Change Committee.
New oil and gas means breaching the Paris Agreement, causing a global temperature rise of more than 1.5 degrees.
That will bring catastrophic effects: sea level rises, storms, flooding and wildfires, which we're already seeing after a rise of just 1.2 degrees.
The stress this chaos will place on our society is unimaginable. Food shortages and soaring prices will be just the first warning sign of further breakdown.
Knowing these devastating, deadly consequences, our government is still granting new licences for oil and gas exploration in the North Sea.
The immorality of pursuing the expansion of fossil fuels needs to be shouted from the rooftops. It's time to listen to what Just Stop Oil are saying - before it's too late.
