Paramedics and members of the public battled to save the life of a teenager as he lay dying in a residential street.

Three teenagers have been arrested after the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene near Crawley train station.

A police helicopter was called in to help search the area and a 17-year-old male from Worthing and an 18-year-old male from Horsham were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police were called after reports of a stabbing near the station on Monday afternoon.

The 18-year-old was found with serious injuries and despite the efforts of members of the public and paramedics he was pronounced dead in Malthouse Road at 3.21pm.

Sussex Poilce said his next of kin have been informed.

An 18-year-old female from Crawley has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Detective Chief Inspector Debbie White said: “This is a fast-moving investigation and we are asking anyone with any information about the incident to please come forward.

“We are treating this as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider community, however the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area this evening as our enquiries continue.
