A town centre and railway station are being "contained" by police and helicopter.
Sussex Police are responding to an alleged assault in the vicinity of Malthouse Road, Crawley.
A spokesman for the force said: “Officers have contained the area, including the town centre and railway station, and assistance is being provided by the National Police Air Service helicopter.
“This is being treated as an isolated incident and the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as our enquiries continue.”
