Motorists are having to drive on the wrong side of a carriageway to avoid protestors blocking a road into the city centre.

Just Stop Oil campaigners are holding banners and are stood in Grand Parade, next to the Level in Brighton.

Vehicles travelling southbound into Brighton are having to use the northbound lanes to avoid the protesters.

Around 30 people are gathered in the road.

Just Stop Oil is a pressure group campaigning for the government to put a stop to gas and oil projects.

The rally was organised by Just Stop Oil supporters in the city.

In a poster on social media, the group wrote: "Fossil fuels are killing us.

"Together, we can demand change."

A witness said: "The protesters were forcing cars to use the wrong side of the road.

"They did all pull over for an ambulance, though."

A spokesman for Sussex Police said:

"Police attended a protest which started just after 2pm in Grand Parade, Brighton on Saturday, February 18.

"Officers are engaging with the protestors to facilitate a peaceful protest and minimise disruption to the public."
