Hundreds of people attended a vigil to remember a teenager who was killed in Warrington.

Brianna Ghey, 16, was found with fatal stab wounds on Saturday. A boy and a girl have since been charged with her murder.

Mourners in Brighton congregated in Victoria Gardens to pay their respects to the teenager and to vent their anger.

Police are exploring whether Brianna, a transgender girl, was the victim of a hate crime.

One speaker at the vigil said: “Brianna will be missed so much, there is love for her everywhere.”

Another added: “I’m angry, and I should be, and you are angry, and you should be.

“I cannot begin to express how devastating it is to lose Brianna.

People at the vigil held candles and shouted Brianna Ghey’s name as well as chants of “trans power”.

Many of those at the event also held transgender pride flags as well as placards with messages mourning Brianna.

The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were not required to enter pleas to the charge. They will appear at Liverpool Crown Court later today.
