Fire services have taped off a section of road while responding to an incident.
Two fire crews attended the scene of the incident in Bolton Road in Eastbourne using vehicles to block off a section of road.
A cordon was put in place around roadworks at the side of the street. A gas cannister appears to be in the centre of the cordon.

Fire crews were called to reports of smoke in the basement of a commercial building, wheer they extinguished a smoking electrical fuse board.
A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 9.44 am to reports of smoke in the basement of a commercial building.
"Firefighters wore breathing apparatus to use a CO2 fire extinguisher on a smoking electrical fuse board.
"There are no reports of any injuries."
