A road was closed off due to fears a “dangerous” tree could topple over.
Police and highways teams were at Downview Road in Worthing last night.
The road was closed from 8pm.
It is unclear if the road is still closed this morning.
A woman who lives nearby said she could hear workers "cutting down" the tree at around 11.45pm.
Sussex Police and West Sussex County Council have been approached for comment.
