Drone images of a crash where a cement mixer caught fire have revealed the extent of the damage to nearby properties.

The collision between a car and the lorry appears to have caused extensive damage to the porch of a house which the incident happened next to.

Emergency services can be seen dealing with lorry and a car which have been completely destroyed by the flames.

The lorry appears to have rolled and fallen into a field next to the property.

The crash, which took place at around 9.30am this morning, has led to London Road in Balcombe being closed while the operation continues.

Other drone images show remnants of foam used to douse the fire and bring the incident under control.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service reported that none of the occupants of the vehicles were trapped in the incident and no injuries have been reported at this time.

A fire service statement said that when they arrived they found both the car and lorry alight with flames spreading to telegraph lines and nearby properties.

In the statement, a spokesman for the fire service said: “We were called at 9.31am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision on London Road at Balcombe between Stone Lane and the B2110.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised fire engines from Crawley and Burgess Hill to the scene.

“Upon arrival they found a collision involving a car and a cement mixer, with both vehicles alight and the fire spreading to nearby telegraph lines and the porch of a nearby property.

"Fortunately none of the occupants of the vehicles were trapped.

“Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service are also in attendance, and BT have been requested to the scene.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the fire under control using one high pressure hose reel, two jets, a hydrant and foam. They remain on scene at this time damping down.

“London Road is expected to remain closed in both directions for some time. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.”
