Thousands of workers have taken to the streets as part of industrial action across a number of sectors.
Teachers and university lecturers crammed the streets as they marched along roads to protest about pay and education cuts.
The protest march comes as millions of children are at home with schools closing due to a lack of staff.
Protesters began congregating at The Level in Brighton before taking to the streets as police held back traffic.
Photographs from the march show teachers and other protesters marching up Trafalgar Street towards Brighton railway station and filling the streets.
Among the teachers and other striking staff at the march were many children who were not at school due to the strikes.
Speaking to teachers at the march, many stressed how important it was to show pupils that the day was “not just a day off”.
Some children at the march were seen waving banners while others joined in singing chants and banging drums.
Protesters marched from The Level to Holiday Inn on the Brighton seafront, passing the clock tower and Churchill Square.
The strikes are part of a national walk out by the National Education Union where teachers are asking for a pay rise in line with inflation.
