A woman was injured when she was hit by a falling tree in Ashdown Forest.
The tree, which was being felled as part of work to manage damaged and decaying trees, is said to have struck the walker and a man she was with on Wednesday, January 25.
The trust which manages the forest have sent their thoughts to the family and say that they have also informed the Health and Safety Executive about the incident.
The Argus understands that the woman was taken to hospital following the incident but the man escaped without serious injuries.
A spokesman for the Ashdown Forest Trust said: “We are currently investigating an incident in which a member of the public was struck by a falling tree.
“Our ranger team had been undertaking their regular programme of work to manage older, damaged or decaying trees on the Forest.
“Following the incident that happened on January 25, the Health and Safety Executive was informed and further tree management work by our inhouse team suspended.
“We send our thoughts and best wishes to the two people and their family who were impacted by this incident.
“Due to the ongoing investigation, we will not be making any further comment at this time.”
