A man remains in hospital with a serious head injury with police investigating how he was hurt.
The man, 66, was found in the early hours of the morning and was treated by ambulance staff before being taken to hospital.
A member of the public found the man with serious injuries in Heathcote Drive in East Grinstead, and called emergency services.
Sussex Police Detective Inspector Dan McCarthy CID said: “At this time our detectives are working hard to establish how the man sustained these injuries. We are keeping an open mind as we pursue a number of lines of enquiry.”
The man is thought to have travelled from London to East Grinstead by train prior to the incident in the early hours of Wednesday, January 25.
Police are asking residents and businesses between Heathcote Drive and the train station to check CCTV, dash came or doorbell footage from around 1.15am to try and uncover information related to the case.
The force are also keen to speak to anyone driving in the area at the time.
Anyone with relevant information which could assist detectives with their investigation is asked to report it online or call 101 quoting serial number of 47 of 25/01.
