A new fast-food restaurant will be “opening soon” in a Sussex town.
Nando’s branding can be seen in the windows of its brand-new site and first ever branch in Worthing.
The popular chain will open in the former Laura Ashley unit in the town’s Montague Centre, which has remained empty since the clothing retailer’s departure in 2019.
An opening date for the establishment has not yet been confirmed by the company, but the colourful branding states “a new home for peri-peri opening soon”.
Another sign asks "Fire-up the grills! Are you ready?"
Nando’s has also applied to Worthing Borough Council for a premises licence to permit the sale of alcohol for consumption on and off the premises Monday to Sunday 11am till midnight, as well as the provision of late night refreshment between 11pm and midnight Monday to Sunday.
In August, the South African company submitted plans for the installation of a plant to the rear service area including kitchen extract duct and five air conditioning units.
The application also sought to extend the hours of operation of the plant to 24 hours in order to “align with Nando’s occupation of the restaurant”.
“The proposed equipment is modern, efficient and will allow Nando’s to operate and function effectively,” planning documents stated.
“The proposals will not appear dominant or out of character within the surrounding area, nor harm the special interest of the conservation area. As confirmed by the submitted noise impact assessment, the proposals will not adversely impact on any surrounding amenities or well-being, nor will they detract from the historic interest of the wider conservation area.”
In 2021, plans for the change of use of the shop unit from retail to restaurant was approved.
According to planning documents, Nando’s will operate the restaurant at ground and first-floor level.
The unit comprises a small area at the front of the restaurant, which Nando’s proposes to use as an external seating area.
The popular chain serves a range of burgers, wraps and much more.
Nando’s has been contacted for comment.
