Budgets are tight and many will be opting for a staycation this year instead of jetting off to sunnier climes.
Fortunately, Sussex offers a range of quirky and unique places to stay on the short-term stay app Airbnb.
Here are a handful of retreats to escape to listed across the county on Airbnb that won’t break the bank.
Undercover woodland treehouse - £105 a night
This listing is hidden away in fifty acres of private woods, nestled in the quiet village of Colgate, near Crawley.
The treehouse is up high in an old oak tree at the top of a bank looking over a stream, offering the perfect place to get away from it all.
No camping equipment is necessary for a trip to the treehouse, as it even boasts a hot outside shower.
There are lots of footpaths close by to explore the area, with a pub only a ten-minute walk away.
Unique converted horsebox home - £125 a night
This converted horsebox, handcrafted from upcycling over many years, is the perfect place to glamp in style in a sanctuary of relaxation and peace, set in the tranquillity of nature near Battle.
Bought by the owner as a working horse truck back in 2016, the vehicle was stripped bare and, through blood, sweat and tears, put back together as a beautiful home.
The property has a homely feel, with a bookshelf full of interesting reads, as well as a double bed above the cab - accessed by a fixed ladder.
The horsebox is off-grid, powered by a solar panel, and rocks in the wind - part of the experience in this isolated and private retreat.
1920s showmans wagon - £61 a night
Set in the Sussex countryside in Guestling Green, near Hastings, this converted wagon from the 1920s offers a cosy hideaway close to the beach, rich in history.
The wagon once spent many years looking after showmen travelling around the countryside, housing show folk and fairground people.
Now, in its new life only a few minutes by car from the coast, it boasts a large private garden, wet room, and a smart TV in the bedroom.
Houseboat Bimini - £160 a night
Nestled beside the riverbank on Shoreham Beach, the houseboat initially started life as a torpedo boat in the Second World War. Several decades on, it has been transformed into the perfect peaceful place to unwind and admire the ever-changing skies and beautiful sunsets.
Among its several unique features include a Swedish sauna, an HD projector with a 100” screen and luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding to ensure a relaxing and tranquil sleep.
Bimini can sleep up to six people in its three bedrooms, with a kingsize bed and en-suite in the Captain’s Quarters.
Guests will have sole use of the entire boat, as well as access through the owner’s private garden to Beach Green and the beach beyond - roughly 200 metres away.
