A rare vase created by Sir Grayson Perry is expected to fetch upwards of £50,000 at auction today.

It comes after the 62-year-old artist, writer, broadcaster, TV presenter and Turner Prize winner - known for his ceramic vases, tapestries and cross-dressing - was honoured for services to the arts in the King's first New Year's Honours List.

The vase, from Sir Grayson's early years, is to be sold at Eastbourne Auctions' January Sale on Wednesday.

The vases, generally of classical forms, are decorated in bright colours, depicting subjects at odds.

This example reflects the conflict with the proposed M11 roadworks in the early 1990’s.

The poetic verses on the back reveal the struggle the potter was facing with his condemned studio due to be concreted over by the new roadworks.

Entitled Homes Not Studios, it is decorated with an array of transport methods, including a van, broken car, cyclist and even a pregnant woman.

Auctioneer Jeanette May said: "We are delighted to have secured one of Grayson's early vases from this local 20th Century British potter and Artist who has finally been recognised for his talents
