Stargazers across Sussex were stunned after a meteor streaked across the night sky.
People from across the country reported seeing the object passing overhead shortly after 8pm last night, with sightings from Southampton, Bath and Wolverhampton.
Andrew White managed to capture footage of the meteor as it passed over his house in Storrington, while others took to social media to describe what they saw.
Charlotte Bray said that she had “never seen anything like that in my life”, while Inna Rias said she saw the “huge and bright” shooting star from Mouslecoomb as it passed overhead.
Meteors are objects in space, which range in size from dust grains to small asteroids, that enter the atmosphere at high speed and burn up.
The Quadrantid meteor shower, considered to be one of the best annual meteor showers for sightings, is currently taking place and lasts until January 16.
Around 50 meteor sightings were recorded in the skies over the UK last year.
