A pair of boxing gloves signed by Chris Eubank, a Samsung Infinity hoverboard and a 6ft cardboard rainbow were among the weirdest items to find their way into Travelodge’s lost and found offices in Brighton last year.

Travelodge has revealed some of the interesting items left behind in its 582 hotels, including its three hotels near Brighton, over the last 12 months.

Millions of people stay in a Travelodge hotel across the length and breadth of the UK each year.

Detailed below are some of the unusual treasures they have left behind at the company’s hotels in Sussex:

Brighton Travelodge:

  • Two cases of Brighton Gin
  • A marriage certificate
  • A 6ft cardboard rainbow
  • 20 gold star balloon bouquet

Hickstead Travelodge:

  • A grandmother
  • A pair of boxing gloves signed by Chris Eubank

Brighton Seafront Travelodge:

  • An ice cream van
  • A Samsung Infinity hoverboard
  • A butter board
  • A set of Missoni towels.

The 2022 lost and found inventory report revealed a high volume of royal and patriotic memorabilia being left behind at the company’s hotels, especially across the group’s London, Edinburgh and Cardiff branches.

There were enough Union Jack flags left to run across the breadth of London.

One customer staying at Windsor Travelodge booked an extra room to store his oil painting of Queen Elizabeth II and then forgot to take the painting when he left and had to arrange for a courier from York to collect it.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman, said: “With nearly 19 million customers annually staying at our 580 UK Travelodge hotels, including our three hotels near Brighton, for thousands of different reasons, we do get a range of interesting items left behind.

“When it comes to why so many of our customers forget their treasured items, it’s basically due to us all being time poor, juggling multiple tasks and being in a hurry to get from A to B. In the rush, valuable possessions are easily forgotten.”

All items left behind in Travelodge hotels which have not been claimed within three months, are donated to the local British Heart Foundation Charity Shops, Travelodge’s nominated charity partner.
