There were around two miles of traffic on the M23 following a crash.
All four lanes were closed by police this morning following the crash which happened between junction nine at Gatwick Airport and junction eight which leads to the M25.
Traffic was released and one lane remained closed at around 8am this morning.
The crash happened around 7am this morning.
There were also delays from motorists diverting on the A23 at Horley.
It is unclear how many vehicles are involved and the extent of injuries at the scene.
It comes after a van towing a caravan crashed on the M23 last night near Pease Pottage at around 9pm.
The motorway was cleared by about 1am.
Sussex Police have been approached for comment.
The road is now clear and there are no more delays from around 9.30am.
