Traffic has been building on two sections of the A259 as repair works have seen traffic backing up along the road.

Temporary traffic lights in Peacehaven and Lancing have seen vehicles queuing for a long time as drivers begin to make their way home from work.

Repair works on the road include emergency gas repairs on South Coast Road as well as water mains work at Brighton Road in Lancing.

One Peacehaven resident said: “It says gasworks and it looks like there's a barrier around a manhole. With everyone back at work there are queues and queues of traffic.”

Traffic data suggests that in Peacehaven queues have formed from the repair works stretching back to close to the Denton roundabout.

Elsewhere, in Lancing, congestion is forming between the works near Bessborough Terrace to the Adur Recreation Ground.

The traffic on the road comes after calls for changes to the road following a number of incidents on stretches of the road.

Roadworks in Peacehaven are expected to be in place until the end of the week.
