A police cordon is in place along Brighton beach amid reports that a shell from the Second World War has washed ashore.
A section of the beach near the Palace Pier has been evacuated and cordoned off, with an explosives ordnance disposal (EOD) team from Aldershot working with police to deal with the situation.
A spokesman from Sussex Police said that the bomb squad are dealing with the incident “in situ”.
“We are clearing the beach for public safety and to allow them to deal with the incident,” he said.
