Residents have expressed their fears over safety after severe flooding due to a blocked drain.
Images captured today by a resident show floods across Poplar Avenue, Hove.
The resident told The Argus the issue has been ongoing for several years and has become increasingly worse.
He said fallen leaves cause the drain to block and residents have to unblock it themselves.
“We would have to go outside, clear the leaves from the drain covers and this would allow the flood water to drain away fairly quickly,” he said.
“However, this no longer works.
“The drains are clearly blocked further down the system with mud and sludge.
“I must say that the current situation is very dangerous, not only for us and our neighbours but also to pedestrians and motorists.”
The county experienced heavy rainfall overnight and more is on the way with parts of Sussex expected to end the year with a deluge of rain which could see as much as 10mm fall in a single hour.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for parts of the county, including Chichester, Arundel, Worthing and Shoreham, from midnight tomorrow until 9pm.
Heavy rain is expected to bring some surface water flooding and travel disruption, with some flooding of homes and businesses “likely”.
