Flood warnings are in place for parts of Sussex after the county was battered by torrential rain yesterday.
Red warnings have been issued for Barcombe Mills, Alfriston and Hellingly and Horsebridge after hours of downpours and high winds across the coast.
Amber flood alerts have also been issued for the River Uck and the Cuckmere River in Upper Dicker.
Authorities urge residents in red flood warning zones to “take action to protect yourself and your property”.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency’s Flood Warning System said people should “avoid contact with, walking, or driving through flood water” and to “consider activating any property flood protection products you may have”.
It comes after Sussex was hit by widespread flooding last month after several days of downpours, with two inches of rain falling on a single day.
A flood alert also remains in place for Climping seafront, as unsettled weather could see “small amounts of water flood land and fields”.
While minimal flood impacts are expected today, with tide levels and waves forecast to be smaller this afternoon, very large waves could return on the morning of New Year’s Day.
