A rapping granny has released her first music video which we can exclusively unveil today.

Jill Clark, from Plumpton Green, was inspired by the likes of Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Eminem to rap her verses in a fundraising song for Cats Protection in Chelwood Gate, near Haywards Heath.

Now, with the help of The Argus, she has released her first music video for her cat rap.

The 74-year-old, who has worked for the centre for eight years, said she “doesn’t mind making herself look silly for a good cause” and hopes people will donate to Cats Protection.

Jill did her first rap last year which raised around £700, while this year her target is £500.

She said: “I was put on furlough last year and it was a difficult time so I wanted to raise some money for the centre.

“I like writing creatively, I like silly little rhymes in people’s birthday cards, I watched a few raps.

"I had a hip replacement in June and the cat centre helped me so much so I wanted to give back.

“People are struggling with food and fuel costs so I’m not expecting miracles but hopefully people can help.”

“The adoption centre helps cats that have been relinquished for reasons such as a change of circumstance or financial.

"They need neutering, micro-chips put in, dental work."

Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre manager Danielle Draper said: “We’re a very busy centre, and all our volunteers and staff care for and rehome hundreds of cats every year.

"Every cat that comes into our care will be vet checked, and they will also be neutered and microchipped if they haven’t been already.

"They’ll receive veterinary treatment if they need it, and of course they’ll be kept warm, fed and entertained with toys and activities until they find a new owner.

“All this is only possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of people like Jill and the generosity of donors.

"Our work continued throughout the pandemic, when we couldn’t hold face-to-face fundraising events, so every penny raised is all the more vital to us.

“Our team are all really committed to helping cats in need, and Jill is no exception.

"We’re really proud of her for coming up with such a unique fundraiser and we know that everything she raises will go towards giving many cats a second chance in life.”
