Residents across Brighton and Hove can get faster broadband as a new internet company launches in the city.
The £80m investment comes as part of a collaboration between CityFibre and Zen internet, which are rolling out a full-fibre network citywide.
Traditionally, broadband is delivered by older copper wires. When first installed, they were primarily for phone calls.
But now fibre optic cables are replacing these across the country, including in Brighton, providing a more reliable connection.
Around 33 per cent of the country is already receiving full-fibre broadband, bringing speeds of up to 900Mbps into the home.
People can now access faster broadband, with Zen set to deliver a high-speed service across CityFibre’s network.
With the goal of reaching eight million homes in the UK, they are the only Which? Recommended provider for broadband.
Paul Stobart, CEO at Zen Internet, said: “The next few years will be absolutely pivotal for connectivity in the home.
"Deemed the gold rush decade, the 2020s will see implementation of full fibre across the nation.
“We want to inspire the residents of Brighton and Hove to choose the right path when it comes to their internet connectivity, which will in turn unlock the power of sharing, learning, and communication.”
Anne Krausse, area manager for CityFibre in Brighton and Hove said: “It is a pleasure to welcome Zen onto our full fibre network in Brighton and Hove as part of a growing list of internet service providers.
"This provides consumers with increased choice when selecting broadband packages and I look forward to more and more people experiencing the benefits that our future-proof digital infrastructure has to offer.”
Nearly a quarter of Brighton residents are ready to switch broadband provider in the next year, according to a recent survey conducted by Censuswide.
Zen are offering the new broadband services with no set-up fee and discounted reates.
