Flooding is “expected” in parts of Sussex after a series of flood alerts were released across the region.
Parts of the river Adur near Mock Bridge near Henfield have seen significant rain in the last 24 hours meaning that gardens, fields and roads in the area may be flooded.
Ten alerts are in place across the region including for the Upper Arun and River Uck. The alerts mean that flooding is “possible” in the affected areas.
A flood warning on the Government website said: “The River Adur is high and rising.
“Some roads may become impassable. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding, including the A281 at Mock Bridge. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast.“ The warning also states that the river may not begin to fall until Tuesday, December 20.
Elsewhere in the region, flooding is also possible in Buxted, Uckfield and Wanford amid flood alerts on the River Uck and Upper Arun.
The flood alerts come amid reports that the A21 near Battle has been closed in both directions due to flooding.
An increase in temperatures may also lead to earlier snowfall melting in some areas, which could exacerbate flooding.
