Travel bosses have apologised after a broken rail and ice caused further commuter misery for train passengers.
Network Rail said a team is working to clamp the broken rail in the Balcombe tunnel to allow trains to run until a full repair can be carried out overnight.
However, as trains were unable to run on the broken track, ice built up on a conductor rail, which feeds power to trains.
The company said that a de-icer train will run over the section of track to allow services to resume.
🚨 We're sorry for the extra disruption for @SouthernRailUK passengers today.👇We've got a broken rail in Balcombe tunnel.

👷♂️👷♀️We have a team on site to clamp the rail safely, so trains can run again until we can come back overnight to do a full repair. https://t.co/z5QcpaVSzY pic.twitter.com/8TywYdTcBq
It comes amid delays and cancellations for train services across the county due to the latest RMT strike by rail workers.
Only services along the Brighton Main Line are operating today due to the industrial action, with the final trains of the day departing in the late afternoon.
Southern Rail has urged people to allow more time to complete their journey due to the issues on the track between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath.
