Piers Morgan has called for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to have their remaining royal titles stripped from them before the pair “destroy the monarchy”.
The TalkTV broadcaster hit out at the royal couple after the release of a trailer previewing the second half of a docuseries about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, where they speak openly about their decision to step away from royal duties.
Piers, who grew up in Sussex, said: “King Charles needs to strip these two poisonous rats of all remaining titles and ties to the Royal Family and needs to do it fast before they destroy the monarchy.”
In the next three episodes of the Harry & Meghan series, the couple will address their relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales and the rift that opened since moving to the United States.
In one clip, the Duchess of Sussex said: “I wasn’t thrown to the wolves, I was being fed to the wolves.”
Images of a man with his face blurred, a plane flying, as well as clips of Harry and Meghan’s wedding and the Duke of Sussex filming a video on his phone, also appear on screen during the trailer.
The trailer comes amid continuing fallout over the first three episodes of the docuseries, which were released last Thursday.
The episodes addressed the Duke and Duchess’ tumultuous relationship with the press, with Meghan accusing the media of wanting to “destroy” her.
The couple has been criticised over the series for apparently attacking British institutions as they discussed their experiences, including racism.
Piers, who previously served as co-presenter on ITV breakfast show Good Morning Britain, has often criticised the Duchess of Sussex, once describing her as a “piece of work”.
An argument erupted on the show after Piers criticised the accuracy of an account given by the Duchess of Sussex about her mental health and alleged racist comments from the extended Royal Family.
A tense exchange between him and Alex Beresford led to him walking off the set of Good Morning Britain and later quitting the programme entirely.
