AN "inconsiderate" driver blocked a fire engine by parking their Mercedes Benz on double yellow lines.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called out to an incident in Grove Lane, Petworth, last Thursday evening.
But crews were unable to get round the corner of Middle Street into Petworth High Street.
Petworth Fire Station posted: "We attended an incident in Grove Lane yesterday evening.
"Unfortunately due to some inconsiderate parking on double yellow lines we couldn't get the appliance down to the incident.
"Fortunately on this occasion it was a false alarm."
One person said the fire service should have moved the "offending vehicle with the fire engine" to teach them "not to block the road".
Another woman added: "Sadly this is becoming more frequent in our little town.
"I'm pleased that it was a false alarm. The outcome could have been so different with any of the emergency services."
Another man said that it "happens all the time" in that spot.
