A woman was “shocked” when she bit into a burger to find a “part of a blade” inside.
Sara, who did not give her last name, said she found the piece of metal inside a cheeseburger at a Wendy’s restaurant in Western Road in Brighton.
She said that the object, which she discovered while eating, could have seriously hurt her.
The burger chain, which opened in the city earlier this year, is now conducting a full investigation.
Sara told The Argus: “I ordered a cheeseburger and went upstairs to eat it, but about halfway I felt something hard in my mouth.
“I thought it was a piece of bone, or burnt bacon, or something else, but when I spat it out, I was shocked by what I saw.
“It seemed to be part of a blade. That could have cut my gums, my tongue, or something worse.”
Sara, 34, from Hove, said she showed the metal object to staff who were very apologetic.
“They offered me a new burger but I didn’t have the appetite,” she said.
“I was too shocked to call for a manager or make a scene. I really didn’t know what to do.”
She has since made a formal complaint to the burger chain.
A spokeswoman for Wendy’s UK said: “The quality and integrity of our food is our number one priority.
“We are taking this isolated claim very seriously, have been in touch with the customer to gather more information and are conducting a full investigation.”
The restaurant, the first in Brighton and Hove, opened in March this year, with customers queuing outside to try some of the brand’s signature square burgers.
