A boy has pleaded guilty to criminal damage after smashing a shop window and two counts of assault by beating.

The 14-year-old broke the window of Kwik Vape in Tarring Road, Worthing, on February 21 this year.

He also targeted a Co-op store, which is where the assaults happened, next to the vape shop.

The boy, from Worthing, changed his plea on all counts from not guilty to guilty on Wednesday at Worthing Youth Court.

He will now appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on January 19 next year.

The damage to the vape shop door totalled £166.80.

Simon Lawrence, the shop owner, said he has faced multiple incidents from children since October last year and has called for the legal system to punish prolific offenders.

He has now set up security barriers inside his store to prevent shoplifting.

He previously told The Argus: "There is a financial impact but a mental impact too, you’re constantly on edge."
