Late night repair works took place after a car crashed near a popular city pub.
The crash took place outside The Hobgoblin in London Road, Brighton, at around 4.30pm yesterday.
The vehicle was driven into a lamppost which was bent as a result.
Eyewitnesses said staff at The Hobgoblin looked on in frustration as there was a cordon outside the pub just before England's World Cup knockout match.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the lamppost was later cut in half and removed.
Repair works were ongoing at 10.45pm yesterday.
Sussex Police have been contacted for comment.
