A chef has won a prestigious hospitality catering award, dubbed the “Oscars of the hospitality industry”
Brighton chef Dominic Teague, 50, has been cooking for almost all of his life, rising up the ranks from a student at the then-Brighton Technical College (Now Brighton MET), to executive chef at luxury One Aldwych Hotel in London.
On Monday evening, the Hotel Catey awards were held in the heart of London, celebrating all things catering in the hospitality industry.
The chef was nominated and subsequently rewarded for his work as an executive chef in charge of over 30 cooks at the city centre hotel, winning the esteemed Hotel Chef of the Year award.
Mr Teague said: “I was elated. It was incredible” and it was great to receive recognition for his work. “You bash away day to day and it’s nice to be recognised
He said the ceremony was particularly touching, as the nominees are selected by peers in the industry, remarking: “Obviously being recognised by your peers makes it even more special” and although the award was in his name, the accolade was “So great for the team
“After the past couple of years the industry has been through, I’m especially pleased to able to bring some recognition for the amazing team at the hotel.”
After receiving this award, Mr Teague said he was “very fortunate to have a chef look after me” and take him under their wing, and he hopes that he will be able to reciprocate this for an aspiring chef in the future.
