Gatwick passengers will find it easier to reach the airport by train in the new year thanks to improvements to the railway station.
A new ticket gate line with wider opening will make the site easier to access for passengers carrying luggage.
The improvements also include a second station concourse and new entrance as well as new lifts, escalators and stairways.
Simon Newland, project director for Network Rail, said: “The Gatwick Airport Station Project will transform the passenger experience at the station, helping people get on and off trains and platforms more easily, speeding up their journeys to and from airport terminals, and supporting a more reliable train service on the Brighton Main Line.”
Improvements including the second concourse and wider platforms will double the space for passengers at the station.
Govia Thameslink, which runs services at Gatwick, said it plans to open platforms 5 and 6 in the new year. The project is on course to be completed in the spring.
