Industrial strike action is set to affect Sussex in December as the RMT has confirmed two 48-hour strikes are to take place.

This will happen on Tuesday, December 13 to Wednesday, December 14 as well as Friday, December 16 to Saturday, December 17.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch shared that the new set of strikes comes in an effort to show "how important our members are to the running of this country and will send a clear message that we want a good deal on job security, pay and conditions for our people".

Knowing that the strike dates would cause some anger in the public, Lynch added: "We are sorry to inconvenience you, but we urge you to direct your anger and frustration at the government and railway employers during this latest phase of action."

Here's how these rail strikes could affect Sussex in mid-December.

How will rail strikes affect Sussex in December?

The main rail companies that operate in Sussex are Southern and Thameslink, and Southern say they are expecting "severe disruption" on the planned dates.

Advice on their website states: "We advise you to only travel if absolutely necessary and expect severe disruption.

"The railway will operate limited opening hours with services starting later than normal and finishing in the late afternoon. Please check your first and last trains carefully, as there will be no alternative travel outside of these services."

All service routes up to London are expected to have two trains per hour.

Thameslink offers the same advice to their rail passengers on their website.
