A Brighton restaurant has been shortlisted as the best restaurant in South East England in this year’s British Curry Awards.
Indian Summer in East Street is in contention for the prestigious and sought-after award, once dubbed the Curry Oscars by former Prime Minister David Cameron.
Four others from Sussex are also nominated for the regional title; Tamasha Lindfield in High Street, Lindfield, Tarana in Selsfield Road in Crawley, Mahaan Restaurant in Montague Street, Worthing, and Naasta Indian Street Food in London Road, Burgess Hill.
Award-winning Indian restaurant The Chilli Pickle in Jubilee Street, Brighton, is also shortlisted for the best takeaway award.
The UK’s leading curry restaurateurs will come together to discover the winners of this year’s awards at a ceremony on November 28 in London.
This year’s awards will pay tribute to the event’s founder Enam Ali MBE, who died in July at the age of 61.
Jeffrey Ali, director of the British Curry Awards, said: “For decades, Enam tirelessly dedicated his lie towards promoting and championing the UK curry industry, cementing the British Curry Awards as an institution.
“As the natural custodian of this revered brand, we proudly strive forward with our responsibility to continue his legacy, ensuring the British Curry Awards remain the platform to inspire future generations to push the boundaries and innovate Britain’s favourite cuisine.
“Our goal is to promote the best in Britain, bringing real value to our nation’s customers.
“We have received tens of thousands of nominations this year and look forward to announcing the results of our months-long judging process and live vote due to be held at the biggest and most anticipated ceremony on the hospitality calendar.”
