The founder of Brighton Gin has secured a prestigious new role.
Kathy Caton has been appointed to the Gin Guild as board director.
The Gin Guild was established in 2012 by The Worshipful Company of Distillers, one of London’s traditional Livery Companies, incorporated by Royal Charter in 1638.
In her new role, Kathy will encourage smaller distilleries to join the Gin Guild to be amongst other artisan producers in the UK.
Kathy said; “As someone who makes a premium product with love and care, I am delighted to be involved with an organisation that champions quality and stands up for gin. It’s an amazing organization.”
The Gin Guild works to create more opportunities for those in the gin industry. According to the Guild, it works “to protect, promote and invigorate the distillation of quality London Gin in the UK and worldwide”.
“Some smaller distilleries like us may not realise the Gin Guild is for them, but that is quite the opposite. There are some absolute titans of the drinks industry involved, including Christopher Hayman of Hayman’s Gin, and Dr Anne Brock from Bombay Sapphire to name just two,” said Kathy.
“The team is amazing, but I hope I can bring a different perspective and attract lots of smaller members of the distilling community, spreading the word about the Guild.”
Christopher Hayman, chairman of the Gin Guild, said: “We are delighted to welcome Kathy to the Gin Guild board.
"I am sure she will bring her enthusiasm, vast experience, and distilling knowledge to help support the work of the Guild, its members and the vast number of craft distillers around the world.”
Pal Gleed, director general of the Gin Guild said: “Kathy’s appointment to the Gin Guild board is a fantastic choice. She is incredibly talented and will bring her trademark wit, humour and knowledge to highlight the work of the Guild.”
