As a vegetarian, I often find that eating out can be a very frustrating experience.
When choices can be few and far between, it can be difficult to find something you like, particularly on a set menu.
However, when my partner and I went to try The Argus’s “Dine for £15” deal at Six in Western Road in Hove I must say that we had no such problems.
We were pleasantly surprised by the number of vegetarian options on the set menu. While I ordered bread and olives, she ordered the tomato soup, one of two soups of the day that included a vegetarian and meat-eating option.
The olives had a lovely mix of flavours, with sweetness from sundried tomatoes mixed with the mild olives all pulled together with a balsamic dressing.
My partner described the soup as “very light” with a “rich tomato flavour”, and the fresh bread accompanying both dishes was particularly delicious.
For our main course, we ordered the linguine and a tomato and rocket salad, and the restaurant was more than happy to provide the salad without bacon, to make the meal vegetarian.
Simply put, the fresh linguine was some of the best pasta we had ever had. The mix of garlic, mushroom and truffle came together in a lovely, creamy sauce and blew us both away.
The salad also did not disappoint. A mixture of green and red tomatoes provided a sweetness that was matched with sharpness from the pomegranate seeds and it had lovely textures coming from the pomegranate and walnuts. I found it to be a light course which complimented my starter of bread and olives well.
Overall, the meal was delightful and we found the menu and staff to be particularly accommodating and helpful. While eating out as a vegetarian can prove frustrating we did not feel that at Six and for just £15 per person we would love to eat there again.
For your chance to dine out for £15, simply look out for the vouchers which are appearing in The Argus on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the end of November.
