A vehicle has fallen off a trailer and into a river.
The A283 is closed between Washington Roundabout and Ashurst.
Police in Horsham said this will cause "severe traffic delays".
An eye witness said the vehicle had fallen off a trailer into the river.
It is feared the road could be closed for "hours and hours".
Sussex Police have been contacted for comment.
