Christmas is just around the corner at these museums.

Brighton and Hove museums, in charge of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery and more, is kicking off the festive season with an array of celebrations.

The Royal Pavilion is decorated for Christmas with adorable mice figures hidden in mini scenes throughout the palace for children to spot.

There are several Christmas trees in the Pavilion including a recreation of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's Christmas tree from 1848.

This is thought to have popularised the Christmas tree and the following year they were seen in homes across Britain.

Another tree is inspired by the palatial exterior of the Pavilion and Queen Victoria's sleigh will be on display.

“This year we’re thrilled to be offering even more events, decorations and fantastic gift ideas to celebrate Christmas in our venues," said Hedley Swain, CEO of Brighton and Hove Museums.

At Preston Manor, there will be an immersive theatre experience based on Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol.

Other events at the Pavilion include Christmas banquets and a carol concert to get you in the festive mood.

Ms Swain added: “Our Regency mice were popular with the children last year so we have introduced our new mice trail to add in even more fun for families. We’re also holding another Christmas Banquet because they are so popular.”

At the Booth Museum of Natural History, there will be pop-up workshops with arts and crafts.

Some rather peculiar animal exhibits will be on display, including a reindeer, getting into the festive mood.

Festivities begin at the museums on Saturday, November 19 and continue into the new year on Monday, January 3 2023.
