A ceremony has been held to unveil a blue plaque honouring Only Fools And Horses writer John Sullivan.
It was revealed at Prince of Wales Court, Hove on Thursday.
People gathered to watch speeches by Sue Holderness, who played Marlene Boyce in Only Fools And Horses, and the deputy mayor councillor Jackie O'Quinn.
Sue paid a heartfelt tribute to her colleague and friend John, saying: "It was an honour and a privilege to work with John.
"He was gone to soon and we miss him so much."
She mentioned the success of Only Fools And Horses, which remains the most popular British sitcom of all time.
It was a blustery day on Hove seafront, and the curtain unveiling could not take place as the wind was so strong.
But Sharon Sullivan, John's wife, stood by the plaque and touched it to commemorate her late husband.
Kevin Heehan, an Only Fools And Horses fan, also paid tribute to John.
He said: "Only Fools And Horses was a staple in my house growing up.
"We all looked forward to watching and it always made my dad laugh - and he didn't laugh at much."
Sharon, John's wife, shared how she and John loved to spend their weekends on the beach in Hove.
Though it was John's "winding down place" he still loved to write there and wrote episodes of the hit sitcom from their penthouse.
"We are all so proud of him and miss him every day,” said Sharon.
John died in 2011 and for a few years residents of Prince of Wales Court floated the idea of honouring him with a plaque.
John's neighbours Joni van Oortmarsse, Pat Fortin and Liz Pile arranged the plaque installation with Brghton and Hove Heritage Commission.
The neighbours raised £1,500 to cover the cost of the plaque’s installation.
Roger Amerena, chairman of Brighton and Hove's commemorative plaque panel, thanked the neighbours in his opening address at the unveiling.
He said: "This is our 159th blue plaque and we are thrilled to honour such a great man."
