I READ in The Argus of many areas suffering floods to streets and homes because of uncleared drainage systems, and complaints that our illustrious council is doing nothing to combat this.

Council response? A "spokesperson" states that regular work is done by the council to clear drainage. Yeah, right.

I live in Hangleton, at the bottom of a hill and on a large bend. The drains outside houses here have been totally blocked for several years with no sign of drainage clearance.

And with heavy rains... as we are currently seeing... the whole road becomes a lake that threatens many houses here.

So regular drainage clearance is carried out by this council? Maybe, in their minds and some central city areas, but the urban roads, housing estates etc simply do not get this service it seems.

Just what are our council taxes for?

Bicycle lanes and other mindless schemes.

All this, and also virtually every road we drive in this so-called city has more diabolical surfaces and potholes than I have experienced in most other towns and cities. But perhaps the "spokesperson" will now claim that they have not got funds to sort these roads?

Rubbish road surfaces everywhere, public toilets non-existent, drainage servicing virtually non-existent, graffiti on every building but the council blaming building occupiers/owners for not cleaning it?

The much-loved arches in Madeira Drive are still falling apart despite years of promises that this work would be done.

Our so-called council leader and his crew of people who apparently cannot or will not fulfil their promises have one hell of a lot to answer for.
