Passengers paid a final farewell to the city’s last bendy bus after a bus company retired its fleet of the vehicles.
The bendy buses, which have been a presence on the streets of Brighton and Hove for more than a decade, will be replaced by more environmentally-friendly double deckers along the 25 route to and from the University of Sussex and Brighton University.
Dozens of bus passengers took the opportunity to ride the bendy bus along the route for one last time for a special journey to say goodbye yesterday.
The vehicles were sold to Brighton and Hove Buses back in 2009 by Transport for London as one of then-Mayor Boris Johnson’s pledges after being elected.
However, the 15-year-old buses are no longer manufactured and getting replacement parts for the vehicles has become more difficult.
Ed Wills, managing director of the bus company, said: “Finding the parts we need to maintain and keep them safe has proved to be a challenge, so we made the decision to update the route 25 with buses that are much better for the environment and more efficient too.”
