Southern Water is to be questioned about its record on sewage discharge.
Representatives from the water company will be grilled by Lewes district councillors after sewage leaked into waterways and on to beaches in recent months.
Lewes District Council will be the first council to hold the company to account over recent incidents.
Green Councillor Emily O’Brien said: “The situation with untreated sewage being regularly discharged into our rivers and seas is an ongoing disgrace. Southern Water has questions to answer, and I am delighted we have created the opportunity for our local councillors to be able to hold them to account.”
The meeting of the policy performance and advisory committee is on Thursday.
