Burger chain Wimpy has returned to Eastbourne after closing a branch six years ago.
The fast food restaurant in The Beacon Shopping Centre in Terminus Road officially opened its doors to the public earlier this week after a £500,000 investment by Wimpy franchisee Charlie Bhangal.
The return of the heritage burger brand to the town has also brought around 30 new jobs.
The opening of the roughly 100-seat restaurant marked the culmination of a long-held ambition for Charlie, who also owns Wimpys in Worthing and Basingstoke.
He said: “Eastbourne is a great destination and my aim has always been to bring Wimpy back here, so I am very happy to have been finally been able to do so.
“It is a very busy town - there is so much going on in and around the shopping centre and I am thrilled that we have also been able to create new jobs in the town.
“There is a lot of love for Wimpy out there and the initial response has been fantastic.
"Customers are telling us they are delighted to see the Wimpy name back again and we are loving being able to welcome them through our doors.”
Charlie will be at the helm of the new restaurant alongside his area manager Nick Egan, who will be providing support and training for the new Eastbourne team.
The investment has seen the complete redevelopment of the building, introducing Wimpy’s latest design styling, which blends the brand’s strong heritage with bright new colours, bench-style seating and Wimpy artwork on the walls.
Chris Woolfenden, general manager for Wimpy UK, said: “We are thrilled that Wimpy has been able to return to Eastbourne and delighted that Charlie has achieved his dream at last.
“We are sure he and his team will be a huge success, attracting both returning customers and introducing new ones to the fabulous tastes and great value that Wimpy offers.”
The new Wimpy restaurant in Eastbourne is open seven days a week, offering in-house dining and takeaway services.
There are now four Wimpy restaurants across Sussex; with outlets in West Street in Horsham, Chapel Road in Worthing, and Station Road in Portslade.
