Worthing has been named as one of the top performing economies in the South East in a new report.
The report, the first of its kind in region since 2018, suggests the town has experienced growth at a time of economic turmoil, with many areas struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis.
According to the Coastal West Sussex Partnership, Worthing is doing well after “carving out a significant niche for itself in the video production industry” and has had success as a result of many creative industries.
However, the partnership warned that other areas in the South East are at risk due to “worrying signs of fragility” caused by several economic factors.
Caroline Wood, director of the Coastal West Sussex Partnership Board, said: “It’s wonderful to see productivity so high in Worthing.
“But we’re working hard to shore up the future across the whole region, which runs from Selsey and Chichester in the west, through to Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Worthing and Shoreham, and the borders of Brighton and Hove in the east.”
The partnership cited factors which have affected local businesses, including Brexit, the Covid pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.
