PETER James was all smiles as he partied with the cast of Grace at the launch of his new book.
The author was the centre of attention as he posed for photos with actors John Simm and Richie Cambell, who arrived straight from filming the latest series of the TV adaptation of his best-selling crime novels.
The celebration for the release of Peter's 18th Roy Grace novel, Picture You Dead, was a crowded affair as hundreds turned out for the event at Horatio's Bar on the Palace Pier in Brighton on Wednesday evening.
Speaking to The Argus, Peter said: "The event tonight is a celebration of Brighton and I think the books help to put the city on the map.
"It's the first time we have had a proper book launch since before Covid and it's great to see so many friends and fans. It's amazing."
The venue was decorated with paintings such as the Mona Lisa, which alluded to the roots of the new book in the world of art forgery.
Elements of the plot of Picture You Dead are loosely based on Saltdean forger-turned-artist David Henty, whose friendship with Peter inspired many elements of the book.
The pair became good friends following Peter's work on another non-fiction book, and Henty's work provides the framework for the novel's storyline.

Jeremy Trevathan, managing director at publisher Macmillan, said: "It is a special night tonight.
"Peter James is one of Macmillan's biggest guns and Picture You Dead is an absolutely cracking read."
Police presence at the event also showcased the author's close ties with the force. Peter is co-patron of the Sussex Police Charitable Trust with Chief Constable Jo Shiner and the event was as a fundraiser for the charity - police cadets held buckets while Peter pledged to donate £1,000.
Picture You Dead was released yesterday, with extracts appearing in The Argus all this week.
