THE council has risen the bi pride flag from town halls to mark Bi Visibility Day.
The flag has been put up at Brighton Town Hall and Hove Town Hall by Brighton and Hove City Council to honour and celebrate the contributions of bi communities to the city.
Councillor Steph Powell, who co-chairs the tourism, equalities, communities and culture committee, said: “Brighton and Hove is a diverse city, where we champion equality and inclusion for all.
“We are proud to fly the flag for Bi Visibility Day. It’s an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate diverse bi identities, raise the voices of bi people, and call for positive change.”
Bi is an umbrella term used to describe a romantic and/or sexual orientation towards more than one gender.
Bi people may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms, including, but not limited to, bisexual, pansexual, queer, and other identities.
The council stressed its commitment to LGBTQ+ equality and supporting communities harmed by hate crime and encouraged anyone who has experienced antisocial behaviour or hate incidents, harassment or distress due to their identity to report it to police or to the council’s community safety team.
